Send your question to askdrdruid@gmail.com. I’ll send you some groks (thoughts) back as soon as I can.

Your identity is always utterly confidential with me. Use an email pseudonym or online handle if you wish. (Please use email for this rather than Comments so I can REPLY.)

Cheers,

Dr. Druid

Notes.

.. I saw Prez Clinton giving a brilliant talk to graduating high school seniors on CSpan on <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />May 19 2007 & a student asked what they could do. Prez suggested the school start its own micro-NGO (non-governmental organization) to do some good works. This melted with the idea I'd heard in the last few years of micro-production of electricity in your own house or community (eg solar panels over parking lots). Hmm, what ngo-ish action could I take, cadeau-wise, giving back in pagan gratitude? Aha, I thought, I could give some free druid-shaman perspective to some pogblog visitors by email.

.. cadeau .. French for ‘present’ or ‘gift’; a kind of more ancient pagan version of tithe. Pronounced ka-doh.

  1. I think something that we could all do to give back to the community and have an immediate impact would be to kinder to people who do NOT look like us. What do you think Dr. Druid?
    D

  2. D, Absolutely! Deliberately and care-fully expanding the circumference of our 'kindness' is a great and immediate idea. I think of the recent change of my life's little 'mantra' from tolerance for individual differences to appreciation for individual differences and the active difference that made to my perceptions and actions.
Then, too, I'm reminded of Markham's He drew a circle that shut me out;/Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout;/But Love and I had the wit to win;/We drew a circle that took him in.
I also recall that when I first saw that sublime photo of our darling Earth, Vuravura, Jeegoo from space and saw how fragile and tiny she was in all the galaxies, and realized that we were all kin in the same tiny lifeboat in the vast ocean of space.
Planting an abundance of kindness in our inner gardens and making sure we tend those gentle and generous blooms would indeed have an immediate impact. Thank you for the essential reminder to be kinder, especially to those 'who do NOT look like us' at first glance . . .

  3. Perhaps Dr. Druid might create some gift certificates for druidic advice, then acolytes might be able to spread them to individuals who don't yet know the wonders of this 88 day journey.

  4. I read recently that the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, meaning that in Science-knows-how-many years, we (whoever “we” are at that point) may tragically have even less a conception of who we are.
By the way, that horrid hedonist refuge that I live in has a Museum of Tolerance. I've never been, but I imagine it involves something like the remade South Park flag or the section of the LAHS yeabook from 1997 that highlighted the diversity of the junior class with a hastily made collage featuring mug shots of a Korean student, a black student and a white student. Much better just to read E.O. Wilson's writings on island biodiversity.

  5. Given that I grew up in a benighted town which had water fountains labeled 'Colored' and 'White,' I'll take even the baby-lurches of “hastily made collages.”
A thought from improv: instead of “No, but . . .”, in improv they ask you to do “Yes, and . . . .” So I'm going with both the collages and the island biodiversity.
Do you ever feel the 15 lbs per square inch that's pressing down upon us with the column of air above or the 17,000 mph we're rotating grinningly spinningly while we hurtle thru space (in the accelerating light, apparently)? This drives me nuts, being so perfectly bio-adapted that I can't feel just how real I really am.
